Science News Review in 2010

Happy New Year!

2010 was a big year in science and a big year for science related news. From volcano Eyjafjallajökull to advances in synthetic life, the media was never at a loss for science content in 2010. Several topics emerged over and over in my brief (and very informal) survey of the hottest science news topics of 2010 in no particular order.

The Gulf oil spill

The discovery of even more exoplanets

Eyjafjallajökull volcanic eruption

Deep Hubble picture of the earliest known galaxies

Advancements in synthetic life

The first comprehensive census of marine life on Earth

Decoding of the Neandertal genome

Advances in HIV transmission prevention

Electric cars

New directions for NASA

I’m sure I’m missing some good ones… what do you think were the top science news stories of 2010?  What are your predictions for those in 2011?
